Physical Science: This course is an introduction to Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences.
The course is divided into different areas of focus:
First Semester: (Inquiry and Physics)
Quarter 1: 1) scientific inquiry and experimental design, 2) forces and motion,
Quarter 2: 3) energy, 4) waves, sound and light, 5) electricity and magnetism
Second Semester: (Chemistry and Earth Science)
Quarter 3: 6) atoms and the periodic table, 7) nuclear radiation, 8) matter and properties, 9) chemical bonds
Quarter 4: 10) chemical reactions, 11) plate tectonics and 12) solar system and 13) the universe
Instruction Methods will include lecture, discussion, demonstrations, video presentations, on-line learning centers, and lab activities.
Assessment Methods will include quizzes, tests, lab reports, worksheets, notes, questions, projects and participation.
Quizzes/Tests: daily check quizzes and weekly quizzes and unit test
Labs: Labs will often require lab partners to work cooperatively.
Homework: Worksheets and other homework will be done individually.
There will be a semester 1 and semester 2 cumulative exams.
Basic math skills will be necessary to perform calculations and solve basic equations.
Honors classes will include higher order math skills and readiness skills
Assignments: due at the beginning of class on the due date.
All assignments will be completed and submitted via google classroom or paper copies on the due date.
Expectations: students will be on time and prepared for class to begin.
NO FOOD OR DRINKS during labs
